Here are a few neighborhoods where students live:
North Campus/Hyde Park. This area is the area between Guadeloupe and I-35, north of 26th street and south of 45th. For the most part, these apartments and houses are within walking distance of school. This is a somewhat quirky neighborhood, with lots of coffee shops and restaurants. Lots of law students and grad students live here and it is clean and safe.
West Campus. This area of town is located immediately west of Guadeloupe street. It is home to several fraternity houses and pizza parlors. There are quite a few undergraduates in this area. The rent is usually a bit steeper because of the proximity to campus. Also, it can be a bit noisy, especially at night and on weekends.
Riverside. Ample running trails and access to the water. It is a really fun area to visit. Because of its popularity with tourists and Austenite, crime seems to be a bit higher in this area. However, if you enjoy being minutes from downtown and close to the action this is the area for you.
Far West. Affordable apartment complexes on the shuttle bus system, this area is not as far from the campus as the name applies. The neighborhoods are somewhat suburban, while still featuring many apartment complexes that are will maintained and nice. Although not too far from campus, having a car may be a priority if you decide to live in this area.
The Hippest Zip. (South Congress) South of the river on the west side of town, the Hippest Zip is convenient to the local highway, Mopac, and also close to the mall. This is a thriving part of the town with some of the best outdoor activities in the Greenbelt. There is some of the best local shopping in this area. Depending on the complex, you may still want to own a car if you decide to live in this area of town. |
